Violet Copper

Description:

The Violet Copper (Lycaena helle) is a small butterfly (wingspan 11-13 mm) and quite rare in the Eifel.
The Violet Copper owes its name to the bluish sheen on the wings of the male, which, in certain light conditions, drowns out the orange and brown ground color of the wings.
The female has only a few blue spots.
The underside is orange with black spots and stripes and a striking red band along the wing margin.
