Vermilion Saddlebags

Description:

The Vermilion Saddlebags (Tramea abdominalis) looks very similar to the Antillean Saddlebags (Tramea insularis).
However, the head and the eyes of T. insularis are darker and it has purple of the face.
In addition, the male appendages (cerci) of T. insularis are longer (obviously longer than S9-S10) than those of T. abdominalis (barely if at all longer than S9-S10).
Female T. insularis and T. abdominalis are extremely similar, distinguished in hand by entirely red frons of T. abdominalis and touch of purple on upper surface in T. insularis.
