Sericomyia silentis (Hoverfly sp.)

Description:

With a body length generally of about 16mm, Sericomyia silentis is one of the largest hoverflies in the Netherlands.
Its size, broad abdomen, and its pattern of yellow, narrowly wedge-shaped abdominal bars, which usually do not quite meet in the centre of the abdomen, are distinctive, though it should be noted that there are quite a number of smaller hoverflies with rather similar patterning.
