Pedaliodes tyrrheus (Satyr sp.)

Description:

Pedaliodes tyrrheus is endemic to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta with two subspecies; the Western subspecies Pedaliodes tyrrheus tayrona and the Eastern subspecies Pedaliodes tyrrheus tyrrheus which has a diagnostic reddish submarginal band on the upperside of the hindwing; Pedaliodes tyrrheus tayrona lacks this band. The photo does not show the upperside of the hindwing so I can't tell which subspecies this is.
It resembles Pedaliodes cebolleta with a more or less similar underside, which is very localized and restricted to a very humid altitudinal band of cloud forest.
Dr. Angel Viloria, a Venezuelian expert on Satyrine butterflies, has helped me identifying this butterfly.
