Macrosoma subornata (American Moth-Butterfly sp.)

Description:

The Hedylidae, the "American Moth-Butterflies", is an extant sister group of the butterfly sister families Papilionoides (the Swallowtails) and Hesperioides (the Skippers).
They have previously been treated as a tribe of Geometridae (a moth family).
They have also been thought to be an unrecognized group of butterflies, and in 2005 a study actually placed them with the butterflies based upon molecular data.
The 35 currently recognized species in Hedylidae, all in the genus Macrosoma, are entirely Neotropical, ranging from central Mexico south to southwestern Brazil.
They also occur in the Caribbean region in Jamaica, Cuba, and Trinidad.
