This is the subspecies Euplagia quadripunctaria rhodosensis occuring on the Greek Island Rhodos, Western Turkey and neighboring islands of Greece.
Large groups of adults of this subspecies can be found on occasion sheltering from the summer heat in Petaloúdes on Rhodos, in a place that has become known as the 'Valley of the Butterflies'.
