Caribbean Flamingo

Description:

Generally, two species of Flamingo occur in the Netherlands: the Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) and the Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis).
Occasionally, a Caribbean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) and a Lesser Flamingo (Phoenicopterus minor) occur but these species are rare sightings.
Although it is thought that most of these flamingos have escaped from private collections, it can not be excluded that wild individuals came here from overseas (Chilean and Caribbean Flamingo) and from southern Europe and Africa (Greater and Lesser Flamingo).

The really pinkish flamingo on the photos is a Caribbean Flamingo.
The other flamingos are Greater Flamingos.
