There are three subspecies of the Blue-headed Parrot ranging from Costa Rica, Venezuela and Trinidad south to Bolivia and Brazil. This is Pionus menstruus menstruus occurring in eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, northern Brazil, northern Bolivia, central Brazil and Trinidad.
